 Vroom Mama

Lubumbashi is the center of the mining industry in Haut Katanga, a region rich in copper, lithium and cobalt, attracting international mining, transport and logistics corporations.

Like other sectors, the transport sector has long been the victim of socio-cultural stereotypes: the profession of vehicle driver is predominantly male. However, this profession has always been accessible to all: men or women, everyone can operate a vehicle as long as appropriate training is followed.

Launched in 2024, the project is designed to address the social and financial constraints limiting women in the transport sector, by offering them opportunities for empowerment and development.

RAISING AWARENESS

Designed to convey key messages on women's rights, violence prevention, access to health and justice, and the importance of women's empowerment in society, the project foresees a variety of events held in the city including plays and sketches to attract a large audience and create an entertaining atmosphere in the periphery and community discussions.

PROFESSIONAL DRIVING TRAINING

The training includes several modules (light vehicles, heavy vehicles and industrial machinery) and will be followed by obtaining a driving license.
The project also provides additional training modules including soft skills, first aid and self-defense.
Thanks to its modular structure, the proposed training aims to prepare women to work in various fields and economic sectors.

PROFESSIONAL DRIVING TRAINING

After each training we have planned three months of internship in a company to maximize the benefits for the trainees, and facilitate access to employment, but also to strengthen the capacity of companies to welcome female staff in sectors with a strong male influence.
