On July 3rd, the Centre d’Éveil de la Femme celebrated a milestone with the official launch of the “Terre Mère” project.
This ambitious program, aimed at restoring degraded land and strengthening the economic empowerment of rural women, was inaugurated by Mr. Michel Mpundu Mubemba Mulambi, Dean of the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences at the University of Lubumbashi. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of innovative and sustainable agriculture in building a more resilient future.
The presence of the King Baudouin Foundation, represented by Mrs. Véronique Poverello, added even greater significance to the event, reflecting the crucial support of partners for this initiative.
The launch brought together 40 dynamic and determined women from different villages, whose bright smiles reflected their hope and determination to embrace change. They began their theoretical training, an essential first step to acquire the knowledge needed to implement sustainable agricultural practices. In the coming weeks, this will be followed by a practical field phase, where participants will apply the skills learned.
The “Terre Mère” project addresses key challenges in the region: combating soil degradation, empowering women economically, and improving food security for local communities.
CEF and its partners look forward to following the progress of this initiative and witnessing its positive impact on the environment, families, and the lives of the women involved.
